METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing gum from concrete usually depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to get it off by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a workable substance compared to a warm and sticky glob. Once that happens, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper under the gum. Next we move the scraper slowly beneath the gum and the entire piece should peel right off of the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we don’t use high pressure because that might damage the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses any more pressure than needed to safely clean commercial concrete surfaces. These types of surfaces can be destroyed a lot easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can require up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our chewing gum removal service.
